What is the eTorque of the new RAM 2019?

In parallel with the Ram 1500 lightening and improved aerodynamics of the truck as part of the 2019 overhaul, Ram’s engineers did their own work under the hood. However, instead of advanced cylinder deactivation or a dual fuel injection system, Ram’s employees turned to more familiar fuel economy assistance: hybridization.

For 2019, the soft eTorque hybrid system will be standard on all 3.6-liter V6 Ram models and will be available on the 5.7-liter Hemi model later this year. Note, however, that Ram will not use the word “hybrid” in his ads.

Easier in many ways than other hybrid systems, the eTorque uses a starter / generator / motor (SGM) combination instead of the engine alternator. The SGM functions as an alternator, but also charges a 48-volt on-board battery during braking and deceleration. This stored energy is exploited by the SGM during acceleration, providing additional power when needed.

Since the eTorque system operates through the engine accessory belt and provides power through the engine crankshaft, it can not propel the vehicle solely to electrical power, hence the hybrid system. soft”.

What is not light is the amount of power generated by eTorque. For the V6 engine, the system provides up to 90 lb-ft of extra torque. For the Hemi, up to 130 lb-ft of torque is available.

It is interesting to note that the Ram engines with eTorque have the same power and torque (305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft for the V6, 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft for the Hemi), with no-system engines. The reason is that the eTorque does not affect the peak power, but completes the torque before the engine reaches maximum power.
